Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Les nymphes de Fontainebleau 1973-1975, edition of 50. Signed "André Masson" in pencil lower right, numbered "33/50" in pencil lower left. Etching and aquatint in violet and black on paper, framed. plate size 15 1/2 x 11 1/4 in. (39.3 x 28.5 cm) by André Masson was auctioned at Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts in December last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 300.00 – 500.0 Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by André Masson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Gradiva in December 2010 with an auction result of EUR 2,360,750.00.
Signed "André Masson" in pencil lower right, numbered "33/50" in pencil lower left. Etching and aquatint in violet and black on paper, framed. plate size 15 1/2 x 11 1/4 in.
