Auction result well in line with expectations

The work Etude Pour "Portrait De Claude Hersaint" - 1948 by Balthus was sold in the Balthus auction at Artcurial in Paris in December 2021. It changed hands for a price of EUR 4,940.00 achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of EUR 4,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Balthus achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Thérèse Sur Une Banquette in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 19,002,500.00 (€ 17,044,129.52).

Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von EUR 4.940,00 den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von EUR 4.000,00 – 5.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Balthus erzielen.
