Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Rowers (version x) (Oyster Catchers, Thames Estuary 1932) by Billy Childish was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2018, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 15,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 56,250.00 (€ 49,100.91). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Billy Childish - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work toward a shore, which sold at auction in March last year for GBP 163,800.00 (€ 194,203.34).
