Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Port de Cannes, soleil levant by Charles Camoin was auctioned at Sothebys in London in March last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 24,000.00 – 34,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 23,940.00 (€ 28,383.56). Admittedly, works by Charles Camoin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Le Port De Cassis, 1904-1905 in May 2011 with an auction result of EUR 266,966.00.
