Upper estimate price exceeded by 80 %.
This artwork by David Hockney achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in April last year. In the Prints & Multiples auction, the work Portrait of Richard Hamilton (Scottish Art Council 126; Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo 118) sold for USD 12,600.00 (€ 11,957.86) - well above the upper estimate of USD 7,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Hockney achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Nichols Canyon in December 2020 with an auction result of USD 41,067,500.00 (€ 33,579,313.16).
