Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by David Hockney achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in New York in October 2021. In the Editions & Works on Paper auction, the work Red Square and the Forbidden City, from China Diary (M.C.A.T. 254) sold for USD 4,788.00 (€ 4,144.74) - well above the upper estimate of USD 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Hockney achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Nichols Canyon in December 2020 with an auction result of USD 41,067,500.00 (€ 33,579,313.16).
