Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Gladiolas in a Chinese Pot by Donald Sultan was auctioned at Christies in New York in July last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 22,680.00 (€ 22,230.94). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Donald Sultan - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Battery May 5, 1986, which sold at auction in February 2019 for USD 87,500.00 (€ 76,896.04).
