Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Course of Empire; Brown Course of Empire; and Black Course of Empire by Ed Ruscha was auctioned at Phillips in New York in October last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 4,032.00 (€ 4,058.79). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ed Ruscha achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hurting the Word Radio #2 in November 2019 with an auction result of USD 52,485,000.00 (€ 47,631,364.01).
