Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Matterhorn by Edgar Alwin Payne was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in November 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 47,812.50 (€ 42,360.68). Admittedly, works by Edgar Alwin Payne have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Red Mesa, Monument Valley, Utah in April 2008 with an auction result of USD 289,000.00 (€ 185,637.20).
