Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Awaiting Crowd, 1991 by El Anatsui was sold in the Modern & Contemporary African Art auction at Bonhams in New York in September 2020. The price achieved of USD 40,075.00 (€ 34,199.52) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 35,000.00 – 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by El Anatsui achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Prophet in May this year with an auction result of USD 2,228,000.00 (€ 2,091,233.34).
