Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Oedipe and the Sphinx (after Ingres) by Francis Bacon was sold in the Living Contemporary auction at Sothebys in Paris in March last year. It achieved a price of EUR 11,970.00 exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 20 %. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Bacon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Three Studies Of Lucian Freud in November 2013 with an auction result of USD 142,405,000.00 (€ 104,663,383.80).
