Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Study of Red Pope 1962, 2nd Version 1971 by Francis Bacon was sold in the Contemporary Evening Auction auction at Sothebys in New York in May last year. The price achieved of USD 46,284,500.00 (€ 43,131,581.40) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 40,000,000.00 – 60,000,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francis Bacon - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Three Studies Of Lucian Freud, which sold at auction in November 2013 for USD 142,405,000.00 (€ 104,663,383.80).
