Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Triptych 1986-7 by Francis Bacon was sold in the 20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in March last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 35,000,000.00 – 55,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 38,459,206.00 (€ 45,597,717.24) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francis Bacon - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Three Studies Of Lucian Freud, which sold at auction in November 2013 for USD 142,405,000.00 (€ 104,663,383.80).
