Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work 2 Pappeln (2 Poplars) by Georg Baselitz was auctioned at Sothebys in London in June last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 800,000.00 – 1,200,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 730,800.00 (€ 848,981.72). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Georg Baselitz achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dresdner Frauen – Besuch aus Prag [Women of Dresden – Visit from Prague|AID712205] in May last year with an auction result of USD 11,240,000.00 (€ 10,474,326.72).
