Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Gerhard Richter achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in London in October 2021. In the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale auction, the work Six works: (i) Cage P19-1; (ii) Cage P19-2; (iii) Cage P19-3; (iv) Cage P19-4; (v) Cage P19-5; (vi) Cage P19-6 sold for GBP 113,400.00 (€ 134,348.37) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 40,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gerhard Richter achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Abstraktes Bild in February 2015 with an auction result of GBP 30,389,000.00 (€ 41,901,917.57).
