Auction result well in line with expectations
In October last year Phillips in London held the auction 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, which included the work In Praise of Shadow, 980820 by Hiroshi Sugimoto. The price achieved of GBP 50,400.00 (€ 58,715.44) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hiroshi Sugimoto achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Black Sea, Ozuluce; Yellow Sea, Cheju; Red Sea, Safaga in May 2007 with an auction result of USD 1,888,000.00 (€ 1,403,404.45).
