Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Three Growing Rainbows by Jim Dine was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 189,000.00 (€ 176,125.24). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jim Dine - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Fence (Sydney Close), which sold at auction in November 2001 for USD 391,000.00 (€ 436,481.36).
