In October last year Phillips in New York held the auction Editions & Works on Paper, which included the work Jacob's Ladder: Love (Yellow, Red, Blue and Black and White); War (Orange, Violet, Green and Black and White) (H. 136) by John Baldessari. The »bidding war« ended at USD 7,560.00 (€ 7,610.23), 26% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Baldessari achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Commissioned Painting: A Painting By Edgar Transue in May 2014 with an auction result of USD 2,517,000.00 (€ 1,845,307.92).
