JOSEF ALBERS (1888-1976) Plate X, from Day + Night : Homage to the Square lithograph in colors, on Rives BFK paper, 1963, signed, titled and dated in pencil, numbered 5/20 (there were also three artist's proofs), published by Tamarind Lithography Workshop, Albuquerque, New Mexico, with their ink stamp on the reverse, with full margins, framed Image: 15 3 ⁄ 4 x 15 3 ⁄ 4 in. (400 x 400 mm.) Sheet: 19 x 20 3 ⁄ 8 in. (481 x 519 mm.)

Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Josef Albers achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Homage to the Square in May this year with an auction result of USD 2,954,000.00 (€ 2,772,667.54).

Die Arbeit Plate X, from Day + Night: Homage to the Square von Josef Albers kam im November letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 2.394,00 (€ 2.319,09) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 60%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Josef Albers erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Homage to the Square im Mai diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 2.954.000,00 (€ 2.772.667,54).
