This artwork by Julian Schnabel achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in December 2021. In the PROUVÉ x BASQUIAT: Art and Design from the Collection of Peter M. Brant and Stephanie Seymour auction, the work Big Girl Painting sold for USD 806,500.00 (€ 712,581.73) - well above the upper estimate of USD 350,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Julian Schnabel; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Ethnic Type #14 sold at auction in November 2017 with the realized price of USD 1,452,500.00 (€ 1,220,793.41).
