In June last year Sothebys in Paris held the auction Art Contemporain Evening Auction, which included the work Little Mushroom Men by Karel Appel. The »bidding war« ended at EUR 201,600.00 68% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Karel Appel have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Two birds and a Flower in December 2012 with an auction result of EUR 841,000.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um 68 % übertroffen
Im Juni letzten Jahres führte Sothebys in Paris die Auktion Art Contemporain Evening Auction durch, in der auch die Arbeit Little Mushroom Men von Karel Appel zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 201.600,00 und damit 68% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Karel Appel auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Two birds and a Flower im Dezember 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 841.000,00.
