Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2021 Phillips in New York held the auction 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale, which included the work Portrait of Qusuquzah #5 by Mickalene Thomas. The price achieved of USD 504,000.00 (€ 446,531.41) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Mickalene Thomas - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Racquel Reclining Wearing Purple Jumpsuit, which sold at auction in May 2021 for USD 1,830,000.00 (€ 1,500,738.07).
