Auction result well in line with expectations
In May last year Sothebys in New York held the auction Contemporary Evening Auction, which included the work Studio Celebration by Philip Guston. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 5,000,000.00 – 7,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 5,192,500.00 (€ 4,838,784.83) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Philip Guston have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Strong Light in November 2021 with an auction result of USD 24,393,000.00 (€ 21,611,588.55).
