Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Degas, from Nineteenth Century Artists by Red Grooms was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in July 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 300.00 – 500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 204.00 (€ 173.26). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Red Grooms achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Joltin' Joe Takes a Swing in May 2001 with an auction result of USD 70,500.00 (€ 83,382.61).
