The »bidding war« ended at USD 10,122,500.00 (€ 9,432,951.26), 45% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by René Magritte have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work L’empire des lumières in March last year with an auction result of GBP 59,422,000.00 (€ 70,451,468.85).

Die Arbeit L'autre son de cloche von René Magritte wurde im Mai letzten Jahres in der Auktion The Surrealist World of Rosalind Gersten Jacobs and Melvin Jacobs bei Christies in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 10.122.500,00 (€ 9.432.951,26) und damit 45% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von René Magritte auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit L’empire des lumières im März letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 59.422.000,00 (€ 70.451.468,85).
