Upper estimate price exceeded by 49 %.
In May last year Bonhams in New York held the auction Modern & Contemporary Prints & Multiples, which included the work #5 (Phyllis wears a hat), from 41 Etchings Drypoints by Richard Diebenkorn. The »bidding war« ended at USD 4,462.50 (€ 4,158.51), 49% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Diebenkorn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Recollections of a Visit to Leningrad in November this year with an auction result of USD 46,410,000.00 (€ 42,546,754.68).
