Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Sam Gilliam achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in New York in April last year. In the Editions & Works on Paper auction, the work Untitled #1, from a series of 21 unique works sold for USD 15,120.00 (€ 14,349.44) - well above the upper estimate of USD 7,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Sam Gilliam achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lady Day II in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 2,172,500.00 (€ 1,918,661.13).
