Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Open Cube Drawing, 1974 by Sol LeWitt was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in September last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 3,187.50 (€ 3,258.20). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Sol LeWitt achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Wavy Brushstrokes in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 449,000.00 (€ 636,531.19).
