Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Still Life with Lilies and Mixed Fruit by Tom Wesselmann was auctioned at Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts in September last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 7,000.00 – 9,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 5,100.00 (€ 5,213.12). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tom Wesselmann achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Great American Nude No. 48 in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 10,681,000.00 (€ 6,864,395.89).
