The »bidding war« ended at USD 22,680.00 (€ 19,632.96), 51% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Vija Celmins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled (Ocean) in June 2021 with an auction result of USD 7,748,000.00 (€ 6,539,500.34).

Die Arbeit Ocean with Cross #1 von Vija Celmins wurde im Oktober 2021 in der Auktion Important Prints & Multiples: Part I bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 22.680,00 (€ 19.632,96) und damit 51% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Vija Celmins erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled (Ocean) im Juni 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 7.748.000,00 (€ 6.539.500,34).
