This artwork by Wayne Thiebaud achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in November last year. In the Visionary: The Paul G. Allen Collection Part II auction, the work Paint Cans sold for USD 4,380,000.00 (€ 4,242,952.63) - well above the upper estimate of USD 2,000,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Wayne Thiebaud - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Encased Cakes, which sold at auction in July last year for HKD 79,200,000.00 (€ 9,882,532.84).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Wayne Thiebaud erzielte im November letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Visionary: The Paul G. Allen Collection Part II wurde die Arbeit Paint Cans für USD 4.380.000,00 (€ 4.242.952,63) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 2.000.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Wayne Thiebaud mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Encased Cakes beobachtet, die im Juli letzten Jahres für HKD 79.200.000,00 (€ 9.882.532,84) versteigert wurde.
