Nicolas Graff

Why Painting:
This gesture is millennial…
It came to me naturally.
I chose the break with the idea of imitation of nature, the illusionism of light and naturalistic colors as well as references to the concrete world.
Nevertheless, being surrounded daily by modern architecture, an inexhaustible source of lines and curves, these have inspired me with abstract and playful forms.
Lines and colors are therefore the structural basis of each transcribed, precise and structured form.
Through my paintings, I therefore constantly worry about the harmonization of curves and lines in order to give them an identity in their own right. I exploit the manageable and moldable nature of these in order to provide the finished forms with a balance, thus allowing them to float in space and time.
Our environment is for me a generator of creative ideas and geometric models that I then associate with
aesthetic characteristics of the color, melted or through each shape, then personalizing the symbolized shape.
These changing variations of shapes and colors therefore give rise to an infinity of interpretations according to everyone's imagination and thus sublimate geometry through its abstract essence.
Self-taught iconoclast, I play with the icon to better
dismantle, or more humbly, to restore its function
first: to move us and question us. To thwart pictorial codes without falling into the pitfall of signifier or reference, here is what must appear in my work.
