Between Structure and Intuition

For over 35 years, Ulf Jenninger has worked as a painter and graphic artist. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts and Book Design in Leipzig, he initially focused on freelance graphic design for companies and agencies. Only a few independent artworks emerged during this period. In recent years, his focus has shifted increasingly toward painting.

Landscape stands at the core of his practice – not as a literal depiction, but as a distilled interpretation of perception. His compositions explore the dialogue between color, light, and spatial depth, creating a balance of structure and atmosphere.

A six-year stay in Mexico had a lasting impact on his understanding of light, color, and cultural rhythm. Later travels through Latin America, Asia and Europe expanded this visual sensibility. Many of the sketches and impressions gathered along the way now serve as the foundation for new works.

Jenninger primarily works with pastel on colored paper, complemented by acrylic and gouache. His paintings combine graphic precision with atmospheric resonance, presenting landscape as a space between observation and memory, clarity and intuition.
