Edo period (1615-1868) and Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century
The first, an ōban tate-e print by Katsukawa Shun'ei (1762-1819) depicting two named men wrestling, signed Shun'ei ga and published by Yamaguchiya Tōbei; the second, an ōban tate-e print by Utagawa Kunisada I (Toyokuni III, 1786-1864), entitled Sumō han'ei tamari'iri no zu (Image of a Sumo Wrestler Waiting Beside the Ring), signed Ichiyōsai Toyokuniga and published by Hayashiya Shōgorō; the third, an ōban tate-e diptych by Utagawa Kunisada II (1823-1880) entitled Musashigawa/Ryōgoku depicting the moment immediately before the beginning of a sumo match, both sheets signed Kunisada ga, published by Daikokuya Heikichi; the fourth, an ōban tate-e print by Utagawa Kunisada II (1823-1880) depicting a standing sumo wrestler, signed Kunisada ga and published by Daikokuya Heikichi; the fifth, an ōban tate-e print triptych by Utagawa Kuniteru II (Kunitsuna II, 1830-1874) entitled Shichifuku rikishi no sakamori (Merrymaking of the Seven Lucky Sumo) depicting seven men, each named in a cartouche, sitting around food and drink, the right sheet signed Ōju Ichiyōsai Kuniteru ga and the left sheet Ichiyōsai Kuniteru ga, published by Daikokuya Heikichi; the sixth, an ōban tate-e print triptych by Utagawa Kuniteru II (Kunitsuna II, 1830-1874) entitled Kanjin ōsumō torikumi no zu (Image of Wrestling in of Great Sumo Tournament to Raise Funds), the right sheet signed Ichiransai Kunitsuga ga and the center and left sheets both signed Kunitsuna ga, published by Daikokuya Heikichi; the seventh, an ōban tate-e print triptych by Utagawa Kunihisa II (1832-1891) entitled Kanjin ōsumō han'ei zu (Image of a Thriving Great Sumo Tournament to Raise Funds), the right sheet signed Ichiryūsai Kunihisa zu ga, published by Maruya Tetsujirō; the eighth, An ōban tate-e print triptych by Utagawa Kuniaki II (1835-1888) entitled Mitate tsūzoku Sangokushi (Parody of the Popular Records of the Three Kingdoms) depicting three men seated with food and drink, each representing a characte
