Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
When the work Landscape by Bada Shanren was auctioned at Christies in Hong Kong in May 2019, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 6,000,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than six times as high at HKD 38,395,000.00 (€ 4,394,297.25). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Bada Shanren - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Album Of Natore, which sold at auction in May 2016 for HKD 76,910,000.00 (€ 8,889,373.15).
