Auction result misses estimated price range

In September 2008 a collector was able to acquire the work White Flag by Carl Rungius for USD 1,250.00 (€ 887.72). This price was achieved in the auction Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Maritime Art and Prints at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 1,500.00 – 2,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Carl Rungius achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Alaskan Brown Bear-Out of the Shadows in December 2002 with an auction result of USD 581,500.00 (€ 554,601.81).
