Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by Charles Bartlett achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in Los Angeles in August this year. In the The Art of Hawaiʻi auction, the work Hawaiian Fisherman, c. 1919 sold for USD 20,480.00 (€ 18,894.73) - well above the upper estimate of USD 8,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Charles Bartlett; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Surf Riders, Honolulu, circa 1921 sold at auction in September last year with the realized price of USD 31,875.00 (€ 32,582.03).
