Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A ruined tower, with a village beyond by David Cox was auctioned at Christies in London in March last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 504.00 (€ 597.55). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Cox achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Rhyl Sands in November 2002 with an auction result of GBP 43,020.00 (€ 67,367.10).
