Auction result misses estimated price range
In July 2021 a collector was able to acquire the work Calais beach with shrimpers and a dog by David Cox for GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,104.48). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours including a Fine Collection of Old Master Prints at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Cox achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Rhyl Sands in November 2002 with an auction result of GBP 43,020.00 (€ 67,367.10).
