Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work In Dry Dock, Brittany by Edgar Alwin Payne was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in August last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 6,375.00 (€ 6,333.83). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edgar Alwin Payne achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Red Mesa, Monument Valley, Utah in April 2008 with an auction result of USD 289,000.00 (€ 185,637.20).
