Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Chinchillas (Los Chinchillas) Plate 50 From: Los Caprichos by Francisco de Goya was sold in the The Sleep of Reason: Francisco Goya’s Los Caprichos auction at Christies in New York in October 2020. The price achieved of USD 3,750.00 (€ 3,219.71) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francisco de Goya achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Doña María Vicenta Barruso Valdés, seated on a sofa with a lap-dog; and Portrait of her mother Doña Leonora Antonia Valdés de Barruso, seated on a chair holding a fan in January this year with an auction result of USD 16,420,000.00 (€ 15,122,490.33).
