Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2009 Sothebys in Melbourne held the auction Important Australian Art, which included the work Australian Fire Burning On The Ridge by Fred Williams. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of AUD 500,000.00 – 700,000.00, the actual price achieved of AUD 540,000.00 (€ 329,279.71) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Fred Williams - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Australian Hillside I, 1965, which sold at auction in August 2007 for AUD 1,920,000.00 (€ 1,148,115.24).
