It achieved a price of HKD 187,500.00 (€ 21,124.68), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 56%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gao Xingjian - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work By the Lake, which sold at auction in November 2016 for HKD 475,000.00 (€ 57,881.92).

Die Arbeit A Lonely Man (Un Homme Seul) von Gao Xingjian wurde im April 2016 in der Auktion The Origo Collection — Contemporary Ink Art bei Sothebys in Hong Kong versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von HKD 187.500,00 (€ 21.124,68) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 56%. Für andere Arbeiten von Gao Xingjian mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit By the Lake beobachtet, die im November 2016 für HKD 475.000,00 (€ 57.881,92) versteigert wurde.
