Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by George Romney achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2011. In the Old Master & British Paintings (Evening Sale) auction, the work Head study of Emma, Lady Hamilton, as Miranda sold for GBP 157,250.00 (€ 188,329.09) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 70,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Romney achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Edward Wortley Montagu (1713–1776) in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 4,002,500.00 (€ 5,048,410.94).
