Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of Emma, Lady Hamilton, as 'Contemplation' by George Romney was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2009, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 12,500.00 (€ 9,762.57). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Romney achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Edward Wortley Montagu (1713–1776) in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 4,002,500.00 (€ 5,048,410.94).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait of Emma, Lady Hamilton, as 'Contemplation' von George Romney im Januar 2009 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 20.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 12.500,00 (€ 9.762,57) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Romney erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait Of Edward Wortley Montagu (1713–1776) im Juli 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 4.002.500,00 (€ 5.048.410,94).
