Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2010 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours Day, which included the work Lord Clermont's Bay racehorse Johnny, in a wooded landscape, with a lake and hills beyond by George Stubbs. The price achieved of GBP 91,250.00 (€ 109,717.84) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 70,000.00 – 100,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Stubbs achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Gimcrack on Newmarket Heath, with a trainer, a jockey and a stable lad in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 22,441,250.00 (€ 25,754,691.64).
