HENRI MATISSE (1869-1954) John-Antoine Nau, Poésies Antillaises the complete artist's book comprising 28 lithographs in brown, on Arches paper, 1972, number 12 of 50 (from the deluxe edition with the additional suite of twelve lithographs on Japon paper), published by Fernand Mourlot, Paris, loose (as issued), with text by John-Antoine Nau, the table of contents, and justification pages, together with the original lithographic cover in orange and purple and the orange cloth-covered presentation box. Overall: 16 1 ⁄ 8 x 12 1 ⁄ 4 x 2 1 ⁄ 2 in. (408 x 312 x 60 mm.) album

It achieved a price of USD 15,120.00 (€ 14,261.46), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 51%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henri Matisse achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Odalisque couchée aux magnolias in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 80,750,000.00 (€ 69,194,515.85).

Die Arbeit John-Antoine Nau, Poésies Antillaises von Henri Matisse kam im Februar diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 15.120,00 (€ 14.261,46) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 51%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Henri Matisse erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Odalisque couchée aux magnolias im Mai 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 80.750.000,00 (€ 69.194.515,85).
