Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Grotto in a berg. Terra Nova in distance. Taylor and Wright (Interior), January 5, 1911 by Herbert George Ponting was sold in the Exploration and Travel including the Polar Sale auction at Christies in London in September 2010. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,750.00 (€ 2,024.06) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Herbert George Ponting achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13: Ponting's three master albums of contact prints in September 2010 with an auction result of GBP 169,250.00 (€ 195,755.59).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Grotto in a berg. Terra Nova in distance.
