Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Hubert Robert could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Master Paintings Part II auction, the work View of the Ponte Lucano, near Tivoli, and the Tomb of the Plautii changed hands for USD 37,800.00 (€ 33,713.88) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hubert Robert achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Colonnade Et Jardins du Palais Médici: Gentlemen Sketching In An Italianate Garden; And Restes du Palais du Pape Jules: An Architectural Capriccio With Haymakers in July 2006 with an auction result of GBP 3,368,000.00 (€ 4,930,357.25).
