Here, the upper estimate of GBP 300,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 337,250.00 (€ 387,044.83). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Hugh Douglas Hamilton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Double Portrait of Mary, Countess of Erne, with her daughter Lady Caroline Crichton, later Lady Wharncliffe, full-length, seated, the former in a brown dress with a yellow sash, wearing a large straw hat, with a mandolin beside her, the latter showin, which sold at auction in May 2004 for GBP 542,850.00 (€ 814
